i was at a yard sale this weekend [10-7-17], and picked up two mussel loaders. my limited research so far, and for lack of expertise tells me that the stock, butt plate, barrel are Harper’s ferry arsenal.. the plate with the hammer is Fayetteville NC 1863 and C.S.A.. could this be a ‘last ditch’ effort to make guns for the south? it looks as it would work, as hammer an nipple line up. your help in this matter would be appreciated. gun was found in the Madison NC area. gun is in ruff shape but retrievable i think. also the other is a lot lighter and shorter. i think it may have been English, woman’s or kid’s. will take pictures when it quits raining, and sun comes out if you need them, along with measurements. thanks for you efforts, Charles.
Charles please provide good quality images (photos) of the Fayetteville Rifle and I will do my best in helping you authenticate any and all parts……photos needed are of Lock Plate, Stock, proofs, front and rear sight, barrel, barrel bands and any other markings on weapon……email them to civilwararsenal@yahoo.com
